Snow Fashion

Snow Fashion

With all of the snow the country has been seeing the past month or so, women everywhere are wondering how to get their “snow fashion” on.  On a normal day we already have enough on our minds on how to look cute but add 3 feet of snow to the mix and it’s a whole new ball game.   If you have an office job, it seems a bit easier because you can wear a snow boot and then change shoes when you get indoors.  However if you are out and about all day, it’s a bit of a challenge. My assistant and I encountered this issue just the other day.  She came to work in a beautiful dress and tall black boots.  The only problem is that it was 10 degrees outside and she looked really cold.  I laughed with her saying it’s the perfect day to expose her beautiful legs given the balmy weather.  She went on to tell me the dilemma she had that morning with her snow fashion.  If she wore her black pants, she didn’t have the right boots that were flats and had good traction while looking cute trekking through the snow and ice.  And yet other pants were too long that she would have to wear heals with them but didn’t have the right heels that had rubber souls.  The list was longer but this gives you the feel.  At the beginning of winter I also had this dilemma.  If we are running from the office to a client’s house and then from boutique to boutique, how do you look cute in your snow fashion while being practical and warm.  Here are a few favorites I have found.  I hope they help you look amazing while staying warm and safe.

Buy one that goes in at the waist, has a tie at the waist to cinch it or the pattern at the waist creates an illusion of it getting smaller.

How to Dress for Any Occasion

You have a first date on Friday with someone you have been crushing on for years.  Yikes!  “What am I going to wear?” You ask yourself.  Or maybe you have an interview next week for your ideal job. Yay! “But what should I wear?” You ponder again.  It can be difficult to figure out what to wear without doing a little research ahead of time.  Putting a little thought into it will make for a successful meeting and outcome.  So whether you are going on a date or heading to an interview, we suggest you ask these 4 important questions below.

1.  Who are you meeting with?  Try to figure out as many details as possible about the person you are meeting, as it pertains to the situation.  What do they do for work? What’s their position?  What do they like to do for fun?  How old are they? (Google is your friend.  Just try to refrain from being labeled as a “Google Stalker.”)

2.  What do you want your first impression to be?          You have 3 seconds to make an impression that is locked in. What do you want someone to know about you?  That you’re funny?  Confident?  Life of the party?  Sincere?

3.  Where are you meeting?  At a local coffee shop? The office?  A Mexican restaurant?

4.  What’s your intention?  What do you want to happen during and after your meeting?   Do you want to land the job?  Go on another date?

Now that you have all of these questions answered,  go into your closet and pick out that perfect outfit!

How to Make Your Bum Look Better in Jeans

A perky and perfectly round derriere.  Sound like something you would like to see in your jeans?  Yes?  We thought so. The size and pocket placement is the KEY to a great looking bum.  We’ll tell you what we mean below.

Pockets placed...

Towards the outside: makes you look hippy and bum wider,

Too low: makes your bum look saggy (or could be referred to as the “Grandma bum.”)

Pocket size is…

Too big: makes your bum look large and in charge. (Those pockets are not covering up anything.)

Too small: also makes your bum look large (tiny pockets do not equal tiny looking cheeks.)

**Our Secret Tip**

Make sure your pockets are medium in size and placed in the dead center of your bum cheeks.  If you still aren’t sure how your behind looks, pull a Kim Kardashian and take a picture!

2.  Make sure your hair and make up look impeccable.

Could Your Clothes Be Sending the Wrong Message?

First impressions are key to lasting impressions.  Have you ever met someone for the first time and they end up being completing different than what you thought?  Initially you thought John was a landscaper since he was dressed in a dirty t-shirt and ripped jeans, but come to find out he was actually a CEO of a very successful advertising firm and just completed working in the yard.  For better or worse, we live in a very visual world.  So we use what we see in front of us to make snap judgements.  Type, color, and the way you wear your clothing can all have an effect on the way people perceive you.  Could your clothes be sending the wrong message?  See some common “clothing messages” below:

1.  High necklines & turtlenecks – covering up your neck and decolletage makes you look closed off.  Try showing a little skin to appear more inviting.

2.  All black – wearing all black from head-to-toe may look chic, but you can sometimes appear a little harsh and unfriendly.  Try wearing a pop of color with those black pants even if it’s in the shoes or belt.

3.  Ruffles – thought of as more girly and young. Ruffles make you appear sweeter.  There’s nothing wrong with looking a little sweet if you are!

4.  Crisp button ups (for women) – can make you seem a bit rigid and stiff.  Try swapping it out for a blouse instead.

What’s your clothing item/accessory must-have of the moment?

“I love my purse and everything inside, especially my wallet, the cases on my electronics and my business card holder. You wouldn’t believe what the inside of my purse looked like before Keri got ahold of it. I feel so much more organized and put together now when I meet people for coffee and lunch! ”

Favorite local hotspot?

“My husband and I love Cherry Creek Grill.  They have delicious food, fantastic wine by the glass and great service that’s kid friendly.”

Tell us more about your lifestyle….

“I work out of my home, but I’m out and about most every day.  Some days I’m in and out of my car all day meeting potential clients and networking contacts for coffee or lunch.  Some days I’m traveling around the city or country working with clients at their offices.  I spend lots of time with senior executives, interviewing them, working together on whiteboards and presenting reports.  Since I work from home many days, I’m lucky enough to get to eat lunch with my toddler and cuddle with my baby when I take a break from work.  Socially, we do lots of activities with the kids, including adventures out (the zoo, Costco) and play dates with friends.  We do date nights too, but these days we keep them pretty casual. ”

Why did you decide to use KBIE?

“In my first consult with Keri, she looked at my closet and very quickly figured out the core of my challenge.  I wasn’t wearing many of my clothes because they weren’t “comfortable”.  She also gave me very practical advice about the types of clothes I needed to work with my lifestyle, which quickly shifts between drooling kids and senior executives.  She also had a great approach for building a wardrobe that would work through pregnancy and beyond.  I gained and lost 50 pounds with each pregnancy and she was able to find bargains on the clothes I wouldn’t wear for long.”

How did you feel about your style before you went to KBIE?

“I played it safe for work – I had an extensive wardrobe of jackets and pants that I mixed and matched and bought all from one store that was inconveniently located in Dallas.  It worked fine, but I was getting bored with it, especially because I wanted some more casual options for certain networking meetings and casual dressed clients.  Let’s not even go into what I wore “around the house” and on weekends taking care of the kids!”

And now?

“I have more fun with what I wear.  I trust that it looks great and if I’m concerned about an outfit in general or need help pulling something together for a specific event I have someone I trust to call.”

Why is it important for you to look amazing everyday?

“I meet a lot of new people.  I work with CEOs and junior people and I need to build trust with them quickly.  Clothes that are “too much” or “not enough” can be distracting.”

Tell us about your experience working with KBIE….

“It is easy and FUN!  I’m always excited about what she picks for me and my wardrobe is so much more functional now.”

What would you say is the biggest change in your life, after using KBIE?

“I walk in my closet and am inspired versus frustrated!  Once I’m dressed, I don’t actually think about it anymore… “

In a Fashion Rut?

It’s near the end of winter and shopping for the season’s latest trends seem to have lost it’s luster.  You may look inside your closet and gaze over the monotonous clothing options you have to choose from.  What once was a beautiful “got to have it” purple blouse at the beginning of winter is now a boring old smock you wore last Tuesday.   If this paints the perfect picture of your experience, then you could be in a “fashion rut.”  Not to worry though, a fashion rut can be fixed! We are here to help you fight those winter blues.  Just follow one, two, or even all of our tips below and we promise you’ll be cured.

1. Purchase something in a new spring color. (Yes!  Some of these colors you can wear now.)  Whether it be a cashmere sweater, a stone necklace, or a silk scarf – get an item in one of the upcoming season’s hottest colors like dazzling blue or paloma.  Check out all the colors HERE.

2. Dive into a new trend.  Some of the upcoming trends that you can wear now include: collarless coats, wide leg trousers, white blouses, tea-length skirts, pastels, and black & white.

3. Borrow from a friend.  Have a friend who wears the same size?  Why not ask her kindly if she can part with that killer dress you’ve had your eye on for one night?

4. Add some pizzazz!  Perhaps all your outfit needs is a little sparkle and shine.  Try adding some new jewels to that suit or a belt to that dress.  Accessorizing makes all the difference.

How to Look Put Together in NO Time!

Ever make last minute plans and realize you have nothing to wear for the occasion?  Whether you are running from the gym to meet up with friends for dinner or you have a hot date right after work, we have some simple outfit and beauty tips that will make a great impression in the nick of time!

Women

1.  Drape yourself in jewels.  Throw on a necklace, earrings, rings, and/or bracelets for some sparkle and shine.

2.  Wrap a scarf around your neck.  Either a small silk or long cashmere will do the trick.

3.  Slip on a pair of heels.  Even if you are in a pair a jeans, a little heel can work wonders.

4.  Add some volume or sheen to your hair.  If your hair has gone a bit flat, spray on dry volumizing shampoo to the roots and give your strands a little tease with a comb.  Or comb your hair back with a nice side part into a soft low bun.  Spray the wisps down with light hairspray or dab on a little pomade.

Men

1.  Throw on a blazer.  We are not talking about a whole suit and tie.  Just a simple sportcoat. Pair it with a button down or even a simple v-neck  with a pair of jeans.

2.  Nix the light wash jeans and put on a solid dark wash.

3.  Accessorize.  Accessories are not just for the ladies.  Wrap a watch around your wrist and a belt around your waist.

4.  Slip into a pair of loafers or lace ups.  Gym shoes are only to be worn at the gym and sneakers are to be worn casually.

What’s your clothing item/accessory must-have of the moment?

“Since it is winter, I use scarfs to complement my clothing as well as to keep me warm.”

Favorite local hotspot?

“With two boys, our local hotspot is generally the mexican restaurant Los Arcos.  The kids love the tacos and we like the margaritas.”

Tell us more about your lifestyle….

“It is nothing short of crazy. There is family, sports, work, travel, charity events………I could go on and on.  It almost seems like I have three personalities.  For the majority of the work week, dress is business professional and periodically, we have casual days or casual “offsite” meetings.  The weekend is full of activities including sporting events, snowmobiling and once in a while a little down time.  I often feel my wardrobe is schizophrenic like my lifestyle.”

Why did you decide to use KBIE?

“One of my co-workers began looking amazing at all our meetings.  (Well, she always looks amazing, but something just stood out differently.)  She looked like she was more ‘polished’ and put together.  She told me she had a new secret and was willing to share.  I attended a KBIE event and was sold.”

How did you feel about your style before you went to KBIE?

“Overall, I felt pretty good.  I received many compliments on my clothing.”

And now?

“KBIE showed me that I was dressing as an individual older than I am.  I also became more aware of what best flattered my figure and my style.  In addition to clothing, Keri made a few recommendations on hair, make-up and accessories.  After just one week, I received several comments on how amazing I looked.  This, of course, was a real confidence booster.”

Why is it important for you to look amazing every day?

“As a VP in the McDonald’s system, I am a role model for all women in our company.  This includes our corporate employees as well as our franchisees.  When we look amazing, we feel better.  When we feel better, we are more confident.  It all works together.  Beyond McDonald’s, I serve on two local Boards.  Again, I feel that I am a role model to others in showing them the way to accomplish their goals.”

Tell us about your experience working with KBIE….

“I can say that this is a great customer focused organization.  Not only do they provide constructive and encouraging input, they really listen.  Once Keri has an idea about your personality and your life events, she does an amazing job of helping you be ‘your best self.'”

What would you say is the biggest change in your life, after using KBIE?

“I have totally changed how I look at shopping.  In the long run, I believe I will save money as I will not waste dollars on clothing that doesn’t fit well or ‘one-time outfits.’  It is nice to try new things that you would not generally consider wearing and then learn that they look great on you.”

New Year, New You! Redesign Your Image

Ahhhh, hello 2014!  What do you want to accomplish this year?  Make more money, build success, find the love of your life?  Why not stop thinking about it and work on creating and fulfilling your dreams?

One of the biggest ways to create a major life alteration is to redesign your image.  Ever notice that the more confident you are, the more you accomplish in life?  Consider this, within the first five seconds of seeing you, people form an opinion of you that gets locked into their memory. Based on how you look people think they “know” all about you.  We’ve all heard that first impressions are important, yet many people don’t consider the first impression they are making.  What if you had everything to say about what they “know” about you? YOU DO!! By designing your image, you have everything to say about the image or first impression you make.

How we feel about ourselves is all wrapped up in how we look or dress. Think about it.  You have your favorite outfit on.  You know that you look AMAZING! How do you feel about yourself?  Are you more confident?  Do you walk taller?  Now, imagine you have something on that you think is just okay.  Maybe your pants are a little snug or you’re not sure if it fits you right.  How do you feel about yourself?  Maybe you hope others won’t notice or you justify that you look better than most.  Are you confident?  Of course not.

With a little time and attention, you can design an image for every occasion.  Imagine looking in the mirror and thinking “WOW,” I look amazing.  Feels pretty good, right? Now imagine experiencing that EVERYDAY?

If you are ready to work on redesigning your image this year, we would love to help!  Give us a call at 303.575.1606 to get started on the new you.
